As per the Joint Monitoring Programme, Uganda is falling short of the SDG WASH targets, particularly regarding household access. To achieve universal safe water coverage by 2030, the current progress rates need to be quadrupled. This includes securing financing for safely managed drinking water, sanitation, and essential hygiene services, a task that cannot be delayed.

 Populations in rural areas, the poor and vulnerable populations, including refugees and their host communities, are at risk of being left behind. The value chain of water and sanitation services must be unlocked by providing alternative financing and market approaches that complement mainstream government service delivery. MSMEs can help to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 6 by delivering water and sanitation services. This underscores the urgent need for alternative financing and approaches in the WASH sector, which the audience, as entrepreneurs, policymakers, NGOs, and stakeholders, are uniquely positioned to address.
